The profile of this programme is outstanding because of its combination of the vocational training as an optician and the courses of study at the Ostfalia. The vocational training begins one year before the course of study and ends in the third semester. Hence the students attain their academic degree in a shorter period of time and at the same time gain a lot of experience in practical work.

This dual course of studies is offered in co-operation with the Association of Opticians Hanover and the vocational schools in the Gifhorn district. It is also based on a close collaboration with the opticians involved in the students’ vocational training.

The practical training, vocational training at school and the courses of study at the Ostfalia are organized in blocks.

Fields of study are e.g. Physics, Anatomy, Economics, Ophthalmology, Pharmacology and Optics. A major focus is on Economics. The students will be qualified to run an optician’s business or assume leading positions in the optic industry.

In the fifth and seventh semester of the programme, students complete a three-month period of practical training at opticians concluding with their bachelor thesis.
